The Monkey and the Crocodile: Follow-up tips for August 14th, 15th and 21st story classes

This week, we explored the humorous tale, The Monkey and the Crocodile. The story demonstrates the importance of problem solving and remaining calm during a challenge. Here are three simple, practical tips to help reinforce the story’s themes with your students or children:

  1. Discuss the Story’s Message
Talk about how the monkey used quick thinking to escape the crocodile. Ask questions like, “How did the monkey get away?” and “Why is it important to stay calm and think clearly when solving a problem?” This helps children understand the value of using their smarts and asking for help when needed.
  2. Art Project: Create Character Masks
Let the children make masks of the crocodile or monkey using construction paper, glue sticks, crayons, markers, googly eyes and string. As they create, talk about the characters and what they learned from the story.
  3. Act Out the Story
Encourage the children to act out the story using their monkey and crocodile masks. Simple props like paper mangoes and a cloth for the river can add fun. Acting out the tale helps them remember the lessons about quick thinking and problem-solving while having a great time.

These activities will help deepen children’s understanding of the story while sparking creativity and problem-solving skills.
