fun Art Project: Half-Chick Paper Bag Puppet

A simple and fun craft for children to bring The Half Chick story to life!

Materials Needed:

  • Brown or white paper lunch bags
  • Yellow construction paper or cardstock
  • Orange construction paper (for beak and feet)
  • Googly eyes or black marker
  • Glue sticks
  • Child-safe scissors
  • Feathers (optional)
  • Crayons or markers

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pieces – Pre-cut a large half-circle from yellow construction paper for the chick’s body. Also, cut out an orange triangle for the beak and one small orange foot.
  2. Decorate the Paper Bag – Have children glue the half-circle onto the front of the paper bag (on the flap side) to create the chick’s body.
  3. Add the Face – Let them glue on a googly eye (or draw one with a marker) and attach the orange beak to the flap.
  4. Attach Foot & Feathers – Glue the foot to the bottom of the bag. If using feathers, let the children stick them on the sides or top for extra texture.
  5. Story Retelling Fun! – Encourage kids to use their puppets to act out The Half Chick, practicing kindness and helpfulness.

This easy craft encourages creativity, fine motor skills, and storytelling in a playful, hands-on way!
