The Ten Suns Drawing Project

“My Story in Pictures”

Project Overview:

A multi-part drawing activity where preschoolers create their own illustrated version of The Ten Suns story, focusing on key scenes and characters while developing artistic skills and story comprehension.

Materials Needed:

  • Large drawing paper
  • Crayons
  • Washable markers

Drawing Activity Structure:

“The Ten Happy Suns”

What to Draw:

  • Ten smiling suns all together in the sky
  • Royal parent suns (can be bigger)
  • Happy expressions on all suns

Step-by-Step Process:

  1. Circle Practice: Start with making 10 circles across the paper
  2. Sun Faces: Add dots for eyes and curved lines for smiles
  3. Sun Rays: Draw lines coming out from each circle (or glue tissue paper rays)
  4. Color Time: Use yellow and orange crayons to fill in
  5. Add Details: Encourage personal touches – maybe some suns have different expressions

Teacher Prompts:

  • “How do you think the suns felt when they were all together?”
  • “What makes a sun look happy?”
  • “Can you count all ten suns in your picture?”

Encourage children to retell the story as they draw, asking, “What happens next?”
